Dr. Sunildat Maheshwari
Dr. Sunildat Maheshwari is a board-certified family physician who has been caring for patients at the Gilbert Center for Family Medicine since October 2010. An Arizona resident for more than a decade, Dr. Sunny (as many of his patients know him) combines clinical expertise with a genuine, down‑to‑earth approach that helps patients feel comfortable from the very first visit.
Raised in Southern California, Dr. Maheshwari earned his undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of California, Riverside before heading off to medical school at St. Christopher College of Medicine. His medical journey then took him to South Carolina, where he completed his residency training at the Greenville Hospital System—collecting experiences (and probably some good stories) along the way.
Dr. Maheshwari is passionate about preventive care and believes that great medicine happens when patients feel heard, informed, and empowered. He focuses on helping patients manage chronic conditions while also working proactively to keep them healthy long-term. He is an active member of the Obesity Medicine Association and the American Academy of Family Physicians, staying current with the latest advances so his patients don’t have to.
Since 2019, Dr. Maheshwari has worn another hat as a Principal Investigator in clinical research. His primary research interests include cardiometabolic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and obesity, along with work in medical devices, dermatology, neurology, and cancer screening. Through these efforts, he has helped advance new medical therapies and provided more than 1,300 patients access to cutting-edge treatments and clinical trials—turning innovation into real-world care.
When he’s not in the clinic or working on research, Dr. Maheshwari enjoys staying active and curious. He is married and a proud father to a daughter who keeps him on his toes. In his free time, you might find him on the golf course, on the tennis court, at a snooker table, or exploring his interest in information technology. A fan of international travel, he has visited destinations across Japan, Australia, and much of Europe—further fueling his appreciation for diverse cultures and perspectives (and maybe a good itinerary).
